Three Trip Dates

Choose the week that works best for you:

Christmas Trip
📅 21–25 December 2026

New Year Trip
📅 28 December 2026 – 2 January 2027

January Trip
📅 4–8 January 2027

📍 Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka
🏨 Arasi Resort Kalpitiya

Each trip combines daily kitesurfing, coaching, boat-supported kite adventures, island exploration and time to relax at the resort.

Why Kalpitiya?

Kalpitiya is one of Sri Lanka’s best-known kitesurfing destinations.

The area combines large lagoons, shallow flat-water areas, ocean riding and remote sandbanks and islands. During the winter season, which runs roughly from mid-December to mid-March, local kite centres report predominantly northwesterly winds averaging around 15–22 knots.

That makes our December and January dates perfectly positioned within the winter kite season.

The real beauty of Kalpitiya, however, is the variety.

One day you can be working on transitions in the lagoon. The next you can load the kites onto a boat and head towards a remote island for an entirely different session.

Your Kitesurf Adventure

This isn’t just a week of riding the same spot.

Our objective is to explore the Kalpitiya kite region, combining daily riding with boat trips and different locations whenever conditions allow.

Possible spots include:

Kalpitiya Lagoon – the main riding area, with a long sandbank and plenty of space. Its flat-water sections make it particularly suitable for lessons and progression.

Navy Point – located at the northern end of the Kalpitiya peninsula. It is particularly relevant during the winter season and offers shallow, flat water reached by boat.

Dream Spot – a beautiful sandbank environment where lagoon and ocean conditions meet. Depending on seasonal conditions, it offers the possibility of combining flat-water and ocean riding.

Vella Island – one of the area’s legendary kite destinations, famous for its remote setting and large areas of extremely flat water. It is approximately a 45-minute boat journey from some Kalpitiya kite centres.

The destination changes with the conditions

Kitesurfing is weather dependent.

Instead of locking ourselves into a rigid itinerary, our coaches will select the best riding location according to the day’s wind direction, strength, water conditions and the ability of the group.

That means more riding, better conditions and safer sessions.

5-Day Program

DAY 1 — Welcome to Kalpitiya

Arrive and settle into Arasi Resort Kalpitiya.

We’ll start with a group briefing covering the week’s program, local conditions, safety procedures and rider levels.

Then it’s time for our first session.

Afternoon
Kite setup and equipment check
Spot and safety briefing
First Kalpitiya riding session
Beginner and progression classes available
Sunset drinks and dinner at the resort

The objective is simple: get everyone comfortable with the local conditions before we start exploring.

DAY 2 — Kalpitiya Lagoon

After breakfast, we head out for our first full kite day.

Kalpitiya Lagoon provides wide riding areas and flat-water sections, making it an excellent location for both independent riders and coaching.

Morning
Breakfast
Transfer to the kite spot
Warm-up and briefing
Kitesurf session
Beginner lessons
Intermediate coaching

Lunch
Break and recharge.

Afternoon
Second kite session
Technique and progression coaching
Freeride session
Optional sunset session

Then it’s back to Arasi for dinner and recovery.

DAY 3 — Island Kite Safari

This is where the adventure really starts.

We’ll load our equipment onto the boats and leave the main peninsula behind to discover one of Kalpitiya’s remote kite locations.

Depending on conditions, the destination may include Navy Point, Vella Island or another suitable island/sandbank location.

Kalpitiya operators commonly use boats to access these remote riding areas, with the winter route selection depending on wind direction and conditions.

A full day dedicated to kitesurfing, exploration and adventure.

DAY 4 — Progression Day + Downwinder

Day four is about becoming a better rider.

After several days on the water, it’s the perfect opportunity to work specifically on your technique.

Depending on your level, coaching can focus on:

Water starts
Riding upwind
Transitions
Toe-side riding
Jumping
Jump technique and landing
Freeride skills
Board control
Advanced tricks

For suitable independent riders and conditions, we’ll also look at organising a guided downwinder.

Kalpitiya’s geography allows a variety of boat-supported downwind routes, including island-to-island itineraries when wind and water conditions permit.

Finish the day with a relaxed evening back at Arasi.

DAY 5 — Final Kite Adventure

One last breakfast, one last briefing — and then we’re back on the water.

We’ll choose the best available kite spot of the trip according to the forecast.

The final day is designed to give everyone maximum riding time.

Independent riders can enjoy a long freeride session while students can book their final coaching session and consolidate everything learned during the week.

We’ll finish with a final group session, photos and a farewell evening at the resort.

Eat. Sleep. Kite. Repeat.

Daily Kitesurf Classes Available

You don’t need to be an advanced rider to join the trip.

Kitesurf lessons and coaching are available every day, allowing riders of different levels to travel together.

Beginners

Never kitesurfed before? No problem.

Start your progression during the trip with professional instruction covering kite control, safety systems, body dragging, water starts and your first rides.

Intermediate Riders

Already riding but want to progress?

Work on riding upwind confidently, transitions, better board control, stronger kite positioning and your first jumps.

Advanced Riders

Our coaches can help experienced riders work on technique, jumping, freeride and more advanced manoeuvres.

Private coaching can be added to your package according to availability.

Not a Kitesurfer? You Can Still Join

Partners and family members are welcome.

Kalpitiya isn’t only about kitesurfing.

Depending on availability and conditions, additional activities can include:

Island & lagoon boat trips • dolphin watching • SUP • kayaking • beach days • local village exploration • Wilpattu National Park excursions • relaxing at the resort

Dolphin-watching excursions are offered locally during this part of the year, while Wilpattu excursions are another established activity from the Kalpitiya area.

This makes the trip suitable for couples and families where not everyone wants to kite every day.

Your Base — Arasi Resort Kalpitiya

For the duration of the trip, Arasi Resort Kalpitiya will be our home.

After long days on the water, return to the resort, relax, eat, recover and get ready to do it all again the following morning.

The concept is deliberately simple:

Wake up → Breakfast → Kite → Explore → Relax → Repeat.
